Description
Tolkien, J. R. R.: Lord of the Rings (London: George Allen and Unwin 1968). First UK Paperback Edition. 1077 pages. Superbly rebound by the world-renowned Bayntun-Riviere of Bath. Sumptuously re-bound in full red morocco with all edges gilt; 5 raised bands to the spine with title blocked in gold in panel 2; author’s name blocked in gold in panel 3; publication date blocked in gold in panel 6; decorative chiyogami end-papers; and single-line gilt border to both the front and back boards. “Eye of Sauron” beautifully blocked in gold to the front board. What differentiates this copy from the norm – apart from the stunning binding – is how clean the interior pages are. An OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE. There is a small name to the half-title page. This book would grace any Tolkien collection.
