Description

HARDBACK – A very good book that has been warmly inscribed by the author to his father, to the ffep. The Inscription reads BEST LOVE FROM / EVELYN. The book has the family bookplate of Arthur Waugh to the front pastedown, opposite the authors inscription. Arthur Waugh himself was an author, literary critic for the Daily Telegraph and a publisher. Mr Waugh was the Managing Director and Chairman of the publishing house Chapman & Hall from 1902 until 1930. Chapman & Hall were responsible for publishing Evelyn Waugh’s novels from 1928, until the authors death in 1966. The front panel of the dust wrapper has been neatly affixed to the rear of the ffep. The book is tightly bound with no signs of spine lean. The inner pages are very clean, with no signs of foxing to the page block, or to the inner text. The book is free of any previous owner names or inscriptions. The dust wrapper is in very good condition, correctly priced at 10s/6d.net to the front flap. There is some chipping to the spine tip, with light loss to the corners of the front and rear flap folds. There is also some loss to the base of the spine. The dust wrapper is the correct first issue with the tipped in overlay blurb, which was requested by Waugh, as he was most upset with the original reviews that were printed to the front flap upon publication. The dust wrapper is a clean example with just a touch of fading to the spine. The title comes in its own custom made slip case box. The title is an exceptional association copy, Waugh family presentation titles are of the upmost rarity. Bookseller Inventory # 000887
