Biggles Defies the Swastika – W. E. Johns

HARDBACK – A near fine book, bound in the publishers vivid red cloth boards with black lettering present to the front panel and to the spine. The boards are very clean indeed with sharp corners, and with minimal pushing to the base of the spine. Internally, the closed page blocks are clean with the red top-stain still present but with a touch of fading. There is very light foxing to the closed page block, also with very light off-setting to the end-papers. The inner text is very clean indeed with a few foxing spots present to the front page block and to the page opposite. There is also light foxing to a few of the pages to the rear of the book. Free of any previous owner names or inscriptions. The dust wrapper is in near fine or better condition with very mild soiling to the rear panel, with mild rubbing to the tail of the spine. There is a small closed tear to the top right of the spine with associated minuscule creasing, else the dust wrapper is an extremely nice example, free of any forms of restoration or cleaning, with lovely un-faded colouring to the front panel and to the spine. The dust wrapper is not price clipped with the publisher’s printed price of 4/- net present to the lower front flap. This book is the correct UK first edition with a text block measuring 4.5cm’s in thickness, with the title list on the verso of the half-title page and on the lower panel of the dust wrapper referring only to earlier Biggles works.  Seller Inventory # 002608
