HARDBACK – A near very good book bound in the publishers blue cloth boards that show soiling to the panels with some fading to the spine. Light fraying to the base of the spine with a small split to the corner of the front panel. Internally, the book has a few sporadic marks to the inner text, but is free of foxing. The book has been warmly inscribed by the author to the front end paper. The inscription reads – FOR SUSAN STERLING / WITH LOVE FROM / EVELYN WAUGH / JUNE 1947. The book has also been signed by the author to the title page. The dust wrapper is also in near very good condition with chipping to the spine tips, also to the corners of the front and rear flap folds. There is fading to the spine. The publisher’s printed price of $2.50 is present to the top corner of the front flap. Both the book and dust wrapper are the correct US first edition, first printing. Not to be confused with the un-priced edition bound in the more common red boards. This book has been well read over the years, but is a very scarce title to find signed and inscribed by the author.
