Description
HARDBACK – A very good or better book bound in the publisher’s red cloth boards with silver lettering to the spine. There is a little pushing to the spine base, else the boards are very clean indeed. Internally the inner text is clean and fresh, free of any previous owner names or inscriptions. There is light foxing to the closed text. Inscribed by the author to the recipient and close friend Edwin Moore who was a senior non-fiction editor at Collins subsequently HarperCollins from 1986 until 2004. In 1995 he commissioned George MacDonald Fraser to write the introduction and author biographies for an omnibus edition of five adventure stories including King Solomon’s Mines, The Prisoner of Zenda (which was the inspiration for Royal Flash), and The Lost World. The inscription reads TO EDWIN – WHO I SUSPECT, WAS / RESPONSIBLE FOR FLASHY’S / APPEARANCE IN COLLINS DICTIONARY / OF QUOTATIONS – / WITH THANKS AND SALAAMS FROM / GEORGE MACDONALD FRASER / 5.2.96 I.O.M. Included with the book is a small format authors printed letter with headed note that has been typed and signed by the author to the recipient. The letters content is very complimentary towards the recipient. The dust wrapper is in very good or better condition with just a hint of fading to the spine, much less than what is normally encountered. There is a small chip to the base of the rear panel, with minor rubbing to the extremities, but with no signs of further loss or tears. The publisher’s printed price of £ 3.95net is present to the front flap. A nice clean example, a superb association copy.
