HARDBACK – A very good book bound in the publisher’s blue cloth boards that are clean, but with very mild fading to the edges of the front and rear boards ( about 1mm of fading ). Internally the book is free of any previous owner names or inscriptions. Warmly inscribed by the author to the page opposite to the copyrite page. The inscription reads – AND FOR MARYELLA / FOR HER / ? TH / BIRTHDAY / WITH BEST WISHES / FROM / DAVID / ALIAS / JOHN LE CARRE. There is light foxing to the closed page block, also with some foxing to the prelim pages. There is the odd mark to the inner text, but overall a very good book the Hong Kong map end-papers present. The dust wrapper is a very good example with a couple of very small chips to the spine tips, also with light foxing to the front and rear flaps. The publisher’s printed price of £4.95net present. Included with the book is a lovely hand written letter by the author on his headed note paper to the same Maryella to whom the book is inscribed. It is evident with the double sided letter that Maryella and her family were friends of David Cornwell. It mentions in the letter that the author was unable to meet up as he has filming commitments in the far east over the Autumn of 1990. A personal letter with nice content. Two copies of the Honourable Schoolboy were printed simultaneously. The UK edition ( THIS COPY ) with the blue boards, map end papers and a £4.95 priced dust wrapper. The second copy was printed with black boards, with plain white end papers, and with a dust wrapper which had no printed price to the lower front flap. This copy was printed and destined for the export market.
