HARDBACK – A very good book, bound in the publisher’s blue cloth boards with black lettering to the spine. There is some mottling to the front and rear boards, more so to the spine. A very common occurance with the early Hodder & Stoughton, Blyton titles. Internally, the pages are clean with a little toning to the page block. The inner pages are clean, with a contemporary owner inscription present to the verso of the illustrated end paper. The dust wrapper is also in very good condition, which has benefitted from some minor restoration to the spine tips, also to the corners of the front and rear flap folds. The restoration is light, but of the highest quality, by one of the UK’s leading paper archivists. The end result is a dust wrapper that is very clean in appearance with no chips or tears present. The publisher’s printed price of 6/- net is present to the front flap. Both the book and dust wrapper are the correct UK first edition, first impression with the requisite smaller front and rear flaps, published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1944. By far the scarcest of the Famous Five titles to obtain.
