Description
HARDBACK – A near fine book bound in the publishers blue cloth boards. There is a little blue mottling to the front and rear panels with miniscule fading to the base of the spine. Internally, the pages are very clean indeed with no signs of foxing or finger marks. Free of any previous owner names or inscriptions. Jonathan Cape’s 1957 first edition sheets were bound up as part of Foyle’s Book Club edition in the summer of 1958. These were the earliest sheets printed, but were subsequently rejected by Cape who then sold the unused stock to Foyles. The Cape bound copies are much rarer than the Book Club sheets, The Gilbert bibliography states that the Cape sheets accounted for around 10% of the total Foyles edition. The dust wrapper is in fine condition with no loss or tears, and exceptionally clean in appearance.
